Westrick type bicycle rim

Westrick type rims are mixed, and can be used both on bicycles with rod brakes and on bicycles with caliper brakes.

Westrick profile rims get their name from the combination of "Westwood" with "Endrick".Westwood rims were only used with rod brakes;Endrick rims were only used with caliper brakes;but "Westrick" rims can be used with both types of brake.

Also known as a Raleigh rim, it is similar to the Westwood rim, except it has flat sides and square corners, allowing it to be used with both caliper and rod brakes. They combine the raised center that keeps the shoes free from the risk of hitting the spokes, with the flat sides necessary for horseshoe brakes.

Westrick or Raleigh rims, as preferred, are extraordinarily strong, probably the strongest bicycle rims ever made. However, like all steel rims, they can take sidewall knocks from pothole impacts and the like.

At OldNewBikes.com we have genuine Westrick type rims made as in the old days, from a strip of steel that is shaped and closed to form a circumference by means of a weld that is conveniently polished to make it imperceptible.Internally the rim is free of sharp edges that could damage the tube, and externally it is finished with high quality chrome, with an approximate thickness of 25 microns of nickel + chrome.

The available sizes are 26x1.1/2” (40-584), equivalent to the 650x40B size and 28x1.1/2” (40-635), equivalent to the 700x40B size. In both sizes they are prepared to carry 36 spokes, both front and rear, and a hole for a Schrader or Presta tube.
