Westwood type rims are exclusively for bicycles with rod brakes, they cannot be used with caliper brakes.

The origin of the Westwood type tires dates back to the end of the 19th century, being one of the first bicycle tire designs made of steel. They are characterized by having rounded sides, not being suitable for use with caliper brakes. They are used by bicycles with rod brake systems, in which the brake pads press up and against the inner surface of the rim.Due to their aesthetic appeal, they are also widely used on bicycles equipped with drum or coaster brakes.

At OldNewBikes.com we have genuine Westwood type rims manufactured as in the past, from a steel strip that is shaped and closed to form a circumference by means of a weld that is conveniently polished to make it imperceptible.Internally the rim is free of sharp edges that could damage the tube, and externally it is finished with high quality chrome, with an approximate thickness of 25 microns of nickel + chrome.

The available sizes are 26x1.1/2” (40-584), equivalent to the 650x40B size and 28x1.1/2” (40-635), equivalent to the 700x40B size. In both sizes they are prepared to carry 36 radios, both in front and in the rear, and a Schrader or Presta camera.
